Wildfire Readiness Inspection

Protect Your Home. Strengthen Your Defensible Space. Harden Your Structure.

Wildfire seasons in Oregon are becoming longer, hotter, and more unpredictable. A Wildfire Readiness Inspection gives you a clear, actionable understanding of your home’s vulnerabilities—both outside in your defensible space and inside the structure through home-hardening improvements.

Our inspection follows the official guidance from the Oregon State Fire Marshal, Oregon Building Codes Division, and OSU Extension Fire Program to ensure your home meets the highest standards of wildfire resilience.

What’s Included in Your Wildfire Readiness Inspection

Defensible Space Analysis (Zones 0–100+ ft)

Using the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s defensible space standards, we evaluate all three wildfire-risk zones around your home:

  • Zone 0 (0–5 ft): Immediate ember-vulnerable zone—noncombustible materials, vegetation clearance, and ignition-resistant surfaces. View Video
  • Zone 1 (5–30 ft): Intermediate zone—ladder fuels, spacing, vegetation management, and combustible storage. View Video
  • Zone 2 (30–100+ ft): Extended zone—tree spacing, brush reduction, and slope-related hazards.

These zones are defined by the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Defensible Space Program, which emphasizes reducing flammable vegetation and creating strategic buffers to slow or stop wildfire spread.

Home-Hardening Assessment

We inspect the most vulnerable parts of your home using Oregon’s wildfire-hazard mitigation standards, including:

  • Roof, gutters, and eaves
  • Vents, soffits, and crawlspace openings
  • Siding, windows, and decks
  • Fences, outbuildings, and attachments
  • Ember-entry points and structural gaps

According to OSU Extension, home hardening is the #1 defense against home loss, focusing on fire-resistant materials, sealed gaps, and ember-resistant construction.

Photo-Documented Report

You receive a clean, easy-to-read digital report that includes:

  • High-resolution photos of all findings
  • Zone-by-zone defensible space notes
  • Structural vulnerabilities and ember-entry risks
  • Prioritized recommendations based on Oregon wildfire codes
  • A clear path to improving your home’s wildfire resilience

Estimate for Recommended Upgrades

Your report includes a transparent, line-item estimate for all recommended improvements—whether vegetation management, vent upgrades, gutter cleaning, or structural hardening.

For larger projects (tree removal, landscape modifications, structural retrofits), we coordinate trusted subcontractors, so you have one point of contact from inspection to completion.

Why Ember-Resistant Vent Upgrades Matter

During a wildfire, wind-driven embers are the leading cause of home ignition—not direct flames. Oregon’s home-hardening guidance emphasizes ember-resistant vents, sealed openings, and noncombustible materials as critical upgrades for reducing ignition risk.

We recommend Firestorm Mesh by New Cal Metals, a 1/8" ember-resistant stainless-steel mesh designed specifically for wildfire defense. Learn More About New Cal Metals

This upgrade helps:

  • Prevent ember intrusion into attics and crawlspaces
  • Reduce ignition risk in the most vulnerable areas
  • Improve compliance with Oregon’s wildfire-hazard mitigation standards
  • Increase your home’s overall wildfire resilience

Why This Inspection Matters for Oregon Homeowners

Wildfire risk is a growing concern across Oregon. A wildfire preparedness inspection helps homeowners understand their property’s vulnerabilities, prioritize improvements, and document proactive prevention efforts.

Based on the 2025 IBHS Wildfire Prepared Home Standard

Mountain Air Restoration uses the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) Wildfire Prepared Home™ program as the standard for our inspections. Our process follows the 2025 Wildfire Prepared Home™ Technical Standard, which focuses on science-based wildfire mitigation, defensible space, and home-hardening practices.

Two Designation Levels

The IBHS Wildfire Prepared Home program includes two designation levels:

  • Base / Essential: Key wildfire mitigation steps that help reduce home ignition risk.
  • Plus / Enhanced: Additional improvements for a higher level of wildfire preparedness.

These designations may help show insurance companies that homeowners are taking preventive action. Depending on the carrier and policy, they may also support insurance eligibility or premium reduction opportunities.

Local Code Alignment

Our inspection aligns with:

  • Oregon State Fire Marshal Defensible Space Code
  • Oregon Building Codes Division Home-Hardening Standards
  • OSU Extension Fire Program Best Practices

A Clear Path Forward

This inspection gives Oregon homeowners a practical, standards-based plan for improving wildfire preparedness before wildfire season.
