Whether you're directly affected or simply seeing smoke on the horizon, now is a good time to take a few simple steps that can help protect your home and ensure your family is prepared if conditions change.
In an Emergency
If you are in immediate, life-threatening danger, call 911. For official evacuation orders and real-time updates, rely on Deschutes County Alerts and the resources—not social media. For non-emergency questions about your home or property, please contact our office directly.

Wildfire Preparedness Tips
Create Defensible Space
- Keep grass mowed and remove dry brush within 30 feet of your home.
- Trim tree branches away from roofs and power lines.
- Move firewood, propane tanks, and other combustible materials away from structures.
Prepare Your Home
- Close windows and doors before leaving.
- Remove flammable patio furniture, cushions, and doormats if evacuation becomes likely.
- Clean leaves and pine needles from roofs and gutters.
- If time allows, turn off propane at the tank.
Have a Go-Bag Ready
Include:
- Important documents
- Medications
- Clothing
- Chargers
- Pet supplies
- A few days of essentials
Know Your Evacuation Level
Evacuation notices can change quickly. Monitor official sources rather than relying solely on social media. We have found that the Watch Duty app is the best for up-to-date notifications.
